A Real Case Study

A REAL CASE STUDY

Patty and John have been living in Fullerton for the past 10 years. Over the past few years, they had been concerned about their home’s pricey monthly electricity bills ($309 in 2020) and tried reducing them by investing money in a more efficient AC unit, upgrading their old windows and installing new insulation in their attic. However, because Southern California Edison constantly increased their rates, these investments did not make the difference they were hoping for.

Patty and John were always skeptical about the real savings they would see by installing solar but after several conversations with their neighbor Martin, who had installed a solar system with us the year before, they decided to look at a solar savings report for their home.

When preparing their solar savings report, we analyzed their home’s sunlight availability, roof structure, and installation capabilities, as well as their current and future energy consumption. For John and Patty, their house has a cement tile roof facing south-west without any shade, which is perfect to generate the maximum amount of energy without any losses.

Breakdown of their actual consumption and cost from SCE:

Yearly usage in kWh: 11,679 kWh (average 973 kWh / month)
Cost for the last 12 months of electricity: $3,713 (average $309 / month)

Future cost of electricity over the next 25 years: $208,668

Solar System recommended

For this project we recommended using 22 high-efficiency, 340 Watt panels from Q-Cell 340WG6+ with Enphase IQ7+ Microinverters. Both have a 25 year product warranty.

System Size: 22 panels x 340 watt = 7.48 kW

This system is designed to generate 11,737 kWh a year. This represents 101% of their current energy consumption. The energy our system produces will be guaranteed for 25 years with our unrivaled energy production warranty.

Financial Benefits

Patty and John decided to finance their installation with our unsecured, zero-down Solar Loan for 12 years at 2.99% APR.

Total system cost: $21,690
26% Tax Credit: $5,639
Net cost: $16,051
Lifetime savings: $186,978

Their monthly payment will be $144 a month for the next 12 years, which is half of their old electrical bill. Once the loan term has been completed, their energy is free!

But switching to solar will not only yield a financial benefit. It will also leave behind a better planet for generations to come. John and Patty’s system lowered their carbon footprint the equivalent of taking 1 passenger car off the road per year, growing 2324 tree seedlings for 10 years and driving 8975 fewer miles!
